An investigation into the escape of Richard Matt and David Sweat from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora quite near the Canadian border has raised a host of possibilities into the involvement of prison officials in the episode. Prison tailor shop instructor Joyce Mitchell is the prime suspect in this case. She has been involved with the two fugitives on the run on an earlier occasion.
Mitchell has been charged with supplying prison inmates with contraband materials. Mitchell is employed at the correctional facility that hosts the two as a seamstress. Her job is to monitor the work done by prison inmates involved in sewing clothes. She has been arrested in connection with the escape of the two prisoners.
As per New York Sheriff David Favro, the process of judicial trial is going to involve her presence before a judicial magistrate before her displacement and confinement in the jail in Plattsburg. Mitchell is providing all possible cooperation in this connection, the Sheriff said. Interviews between officials and Mitchell had proved to be productive. She has confessed her role in aiding in planning the escape.
The manhunt is going on in full swing with the police focused on Cadyville, New York. Locals in the area have already been warned of the couple of fugitives on the run. They have been advised to keep their doors and windows closed.
A breakthrough was achieved when two pairs of footprints were discovered near a petrol pump in Dannemora. Blood hounds are already doing their job of tracing the fugitives.
Possibilities of involvement of Mitchell's husband in the entire affair are also being investigated. He is also a prison employee like Mitchell.
