The defense budget was questioned by the senate recently and it law making body passed the bill but haven’t released funds to implement it. The National Defense Authorization Act was passed which will upgrade massive pension program for the veterans in the nation. The hybrid 401 (k) type programs will replace the two decade old system.
The House of Representatives gave green signal to the bill recently. The defense community looks forward to its massive implications as it involves anti commissary cut moves along with pay hike for troops. The democrats froze the bill, which funds all these activities from reaching the floor of the senate.
The Obama administration along with democrats in the congress want extra funding for many federally sponsored well fare programs. The Defense Department funding is stopping the same. Many experts expected huge debate over the defense budget and welfare programs. The political fight over the funding has just begun, which will effect 2016 presidential elections.
The emergency overseas war fund doesn’t have any budget limits and the republicans tried to divert the money from daily military expenditure to the same. Around $39 billion dollars have allocated this way. Of course it faces brutal opposition from the Democrats. This violates many caps on federal budget. The congress imposes caps on each program spending in order to keep the government debt minimum.
The senate minority leader Harry Reid, a democrat from Nevada expressed strong opposition to increased military spending. Even the Pentagon says that diverting funds of emergency contingency fund is not good in long-term.
