It is suspected fighter jets from Russia killed many civilians in Hama, Syria and also in the provinces bordering Idlib in northwestern Syria. The airstrikes on Wednesday were a surprise and were recorded on video by activists against airstrikes. At least 4 people are reported dead and many reported injured. A rise in this number is expected. This was one of the fiercest attacks of all last month.
Russia says it is willing to be cooperative with the US military forces. However, the US Defense Attorney has denied being in agreement with the Russian air attacks. Russian military representatives claimed they were just taking ‘swift action’ on the proposals sent by US which has been categorically denied.
While all the talks are going on, the strikes on Syria continue.
Russia was originally in a bid to fight the anti-government troops that are predominantly living in this region of Syria. This military maneuver and also the 4 Russian ships that sent missiles into Syria were actually displaying a close cooperation with the Syrian government to fight the Islamist factions. The attack on civilians creates new evidence that Russia is in a bid to boost al-Assad instead of fighting the terrorists, such as the ISIS militant groups.
The observers for the Human Rights of UK, dealing with the anti-Assad forces, stated that there were no ISIS terrorists present in the areas attacked by Russia. Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu also stated explicitly that, of all the attacks Russia has made on Syrian regions, only 3.5% was targeted at the terrorists. This raises questions whether Russia is really cooperating with the government or the anti-government?
