1986 Space Shuttle Challenger disaster remembered

The 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger disaster is one of those disasters that shocked the world because the world saw it unfolding on live TV. It has been 30 years since this tragedy happened. It not only stunned the NASA agency but also every country that was exploring space travel and the effects will be felt for years to come.

This tragedy happened on January 28, 1986. The Challenger was in flight only seventy-three seconds after take-off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The explosion killed all seven astronauts onboard the shuttle. One of the astronauts was Christa McAuliffe, a New Hampshire educator who had applied for and been chosen for the NASA program called “Teacher in Space”.

This terrible tragedy was the first disaster involving a US space vehicle with crew members. The disaster took the lives of seven NASA crew members and one civilian and NASA was changed forever. All space travel and plans were put on hold for 3 years.

Of all the tragedies and disasters in the past that have involved the United States, this one will never be forgotten. This tragedy will continue to motivate NASA members to achieve more space travel United State dreams. In the years after 1986, many US rovers have landed on Mars and water has been discovered on the planet. The International Space Station was completed, has housed astronauts from many countries for over 15 years, and has been supplied with provisions, repair paraphernalia, and scientific instruments. While there is always a risk, those who lost their life in this tragedy will continue to be remembered.
