A surviving victim of kidnapping turned activist Elizabeth Smart gave birth to a baby girl earlier in 2015. The baby was named Chloe and her father is Mathew Gilmore, Smart's husband. This month will be 13 years that Smart was kidnapped. She was snatched by a street preacher who was an employee at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah. It took as many as nine months to rescue her. Ever since the tragedy ended, Smart has been an activist against sex trafficking and crimes against children.
Smart's father ED said that this is his third grandchild, adding the whole family was thrilled about the baby. He added that Chloe's birth is the proof that everybody can recover from various traumas in their lives if they have a will to live. "We want all of those people that have been victimized out there to be survivors," he said. "We want them to find their dreams and find that new hope in life that helps them become the best and the most they can be."
Ed Smart explained why it took so long for the news to become public. "It is totally private," Smart said. "This is something she is keeping to herself and not trying to have out there."
