Earl Holt, leader of the Council of Conservative Citizens donated USD 65,000 to the Republican Party and he was cited by killer of nine people in Charleston, Dylann Roof. Holt also donated money to several Republican presidential candidates. One of the candidates, Senator Ted Cruz from Texas, said he will give the USD 8,500 back he received from Holt.
Suspected Killer wrote a manifesto in which he claims that he found out about “brutal black on white murders” from the website run by the Council in question. Among other politicians who received donations were also presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Rand Paul. While Paul’s PR office did not yet respond to the incident and the fact that it received such a donation, Santorum’s office said that the former Pennsylvania senator does not support racism and hate speech.
Council posted a statement and said they are not responsible “for the actions of this deranged individual merely because he gleaned accurate information from our website.” The group also said it is against illegal activities.
Media have reported about Holt donating to a number of prominent politicians, ranging from presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, Iowa Rep. Steve King and many more.
