A man has been charged with capital murder after he allegedly beat one of his son to death because he was not potty trained, announced Houston police. Anthony Trakemon Powell could be sent to death row if he is found guilty for killing his three-year-old, Tristan. He is also suspected of severely beating his other son, who is two years old, and for throwing hot water at him.
The police say that Powell took his children from their mother in Jasper and brought them to his sister’s apartment located on the southeast side of Houston. He then beat them with his hand and a belt because he was upset that the boys were not potty trained. He allegedly said to his sister that he is fed up with beating the children who were not learning to be potty trained.
Powell’s sister told the court she even heard the sound of the boy’s head hitting the bathroom floor. When his father saw that the boy was not breathing well the next morning, he called an ambulance. "According to witnesses, he was counting his money as he was riding to the hospital in the ambulance," said one of the prosecutors, describing how nonchalant the father was.
The cause of the death was a fractured skull which resulted in the boy’s swelling of the brain. The younger child is in hospital and his prospects are good.
